KOTA KINABALU: The Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) 2.0 blueprint, to be rolled out in 2026, is a people-centred development agenda aimed at improving the lives of all Sabahans, said Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) leader Datuk John Ambrose.
Building on SMJ 1.0 (2021–2025), he said the next phase focuses on ensuring balanced progress across rural and urban areas, coastal and interior communities, as well as youths, indigenous groups and small entrepreneurs.
“SMJ 2.0 is not just about continuity but about accelerating development in economic diversification, human capital, infrastructure and good governance, while ensuring tangible improvements in the quality of life,” he said in a statement today.
John, who is also a GRS Supreme Council member, said SMJ 2.0 is guided by three strategic thrusts — strengthening key economic sectors including agriculture, industry, tourism and the blue economy; empowering human capital through education, skills, entrepreneurship and social wellbeing; and enhancing infrastructure development with environmental sustainability.
He added that governance reform, transparency and political stability remain core pillars, while unity and inclusive participation from rural communities, youths, women and small businesses will be crucial for the plan’s success.
He said infrastructure efforts will continue to address gaps in road connectivity, water supply, digital access and basic utilities, alongside strengthening Sabah’s investment ecosystem in manufacturing, agro-processing, logistics, tourism, marine-based and renewable economy sectors.
