KOTA KINBALU: Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister and Luyang State Assemblyman, Phoong Jin Zhe, met with Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad in Putrajaya to discuss the long-standing need for a multi-storey parking facility at Queen Elizabeth Hospital I (QEH I) in Kota Kinabalu.
During the hour-long discussion, Phoong stressed that parking shortages at QEH I have persisted for years, affecting patients, hospital staff and worsening traffic congestion. He emphasisedd the urgency of the matter, citing past incidents where ambulances struggled to access the hospital due to gridlocked roads.
In response, Dr Dzulkefly acknowledged the severity of the issue and revealed that the Health Ministry (MoH) has already identified a designated site for the proposed facility.
The planned multi-level parking structure, with a minimum capacity of 4,500 bays, is now awaiting policy and concept approval from the Central Agency.
Phoong welcomed the Ministry’s commitment but urged swift implementation to prevent further inconvenience to hospital visitors and staff.
Beyond QEH I, Phoong also highlighted infrastructure concerns at other healthcare facilities in Luyang, including Queen Elizabeth Hospital II, Luyang Clinic and Jalan Kebajikan Health Clinic. He called for upgrades to aging infrastructure and better long-term planning to address parking shortages at these locations.
Phoong thanked Dr Dzulkefly for his proactive approach and pledged to work closely with the Ministry to ensure concrete progress for the people of Kota Kinabalu and Luyang.
