PAPAR: The Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA) Youth Council has called for enhanced monitoring and comprehensive studies following recent reports of human attacks by otters at Perdana Park in Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu.
Its Chairman Steve Mositun said the incidents garnered widespread attention and went viral on social media, highlighting the need for a balanced approach to wildlife management.
“Sabah, renowned for its stunning scenery and diverse wildlife, attracts local and international tourists.
“As a community committed to preserving these natural treasures, it is crucial that we enhance awareness and develop effective strategies for coexistence with wildlife.
Other countries have successfully integrated wildlife into their ecosystems; Sabah should follow suit with better planning and education,” he said in a statement today.
He also praised those joggers who provided immediate response and medical attention to the affected individuals.
Hoping for their speedy recovery, he emphasised the importance of not punishing the otters, which are part of Sabah’s natural heritage.
“The goal is to find solutions that allow both humans and wildlife to thrive together,” he said.
