KOTA KINABALU: Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Phoong Jin Zhe officiated a state-of-the-art Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station at The Walk@Riverson Mall here today.
This initiative, in collaboration with ChargeSini, signifies a momentous milestone in Sabah’s journey towards environmental stewardship and economic progress.
“The partnership between Riverson and ChargeSini symbolises Sabah’s dedication to shaping a sustainable future, where innovative solutions harmonise with environmental preservation.
“The partnership embodies the spirit of collaboration essential to driving change and creating a future where eco-friendly technologies are not merely an option but a way of life.
“This initiative seamlessly aligns with the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030, underscoring Sabah’s commitment to affordable EV development and the entire EV value chain,” said Phoong.

Starting October 2023, both Sabahans and visitors can enjoy the ultimate convenience of charging their electric vehicles at The Walk@Riverson Mall.
Three high-capacity 22kW AC type EV chargers, strategically located within the mall’s parking premises, make sustainable transportation accessible to everyone.
Priced affordably from 40 sen per minute, this service ensures that clean energy becomes a practical choice for all citizens, fostering economic viability alongside environmental responsibility.
Phoong expressed profound gratitude to The Walk@Riverson Mall and ChargeSini for their unwavering dedication to this transformative cause.
In the just-tabled Budget 2024, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced these initiatives, including a scheme encouraging the use of electric motorcycles for individuals earning RM120,000 and below annually, providing rebates of up to RM2,500 for owners.
Additionally, 150 electric buses will be acquired by Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, and three bus depots will be constructed with an RM600 million allocation. Anwar also mentioned the extension of income tax exemptions of up to RM2,500 for spending on EV charging facilities for another four years.
As Sabah continues to lead the charge in environmental sustainability, Phoong called on citizens, businesses and communities to join this exhilarating journey and seize the opportunity to develop the EV industry as it holds great potential.
“Let us unite to embrace this global trend, setting an example not just for Sabah but for the entire nation,” he urged.
Also present were Riverson Corporation Sdn Bhd Directors Dato’ Junior Koh Siew Hui and Cheah Kian Meng, ChargeHere EV Solution Sdn Bhd Sales Director Eric Lim Chun Guan, and Aaron Lam from Jesselton Artisan Market (JAM).
