KOTA KINABALU: Sabah welcomed TotalEnergies’ interest in establishing a long-term presence in the state, as it seeks to strengthen its position in the regional energy sector.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said Sabah offers significant untapped deepwater exploration potential and is open to technically capable partners to help unlock these resources.
“Sabah seeks to collaborate with reputable investors that can bring expertise in deepwater exploration, as well as efficient and sustainable production, to fully realise its upstream potential,” he said during a courtesy meeting with TotalEnergies EP Malaysia Managing Director Jerome Saniez at Menara Kinabalu here today.
TotalEnergies, a France-based global multi-energy company, ranks among the world’s top five energy players and has a strong and expanding portfolio in liquefied natural gas (LNG) and upstream operations.
During the meeting, Saniez briefed the Chief Minister on the company’s operations, including its involvement in ultra-deepwater exploration off Sabah’s coast. The company currently holds a 34.9 per cent participating interest alongside Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd and Shell.
TotalEnergies is also involved in five additional exploration blocks offshore Sabah and has stakes in key offshore gas assets in Sarawak.
Saniez said Sabah represents a strategic next step for the company, citing its substantial offshore potential, rising gas demand, investor-friendly policies, and strong support from both the State and Federal governments.
Also present were TotalEnergies EP Malaysia Director (Legal) Solpiee Sahmat and Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) France Malaysia Regional Correspondent for Sabah, Jacques Leizerovici.
