TAMBUNAN: Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Haji Noor reiterated his confidence that the ruling coalition will be given a new mandate after the 17th State Election, given the strong sentiment for local parties to lead the State Government.
Hajiji, who is also Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Chairman, said the present GRS Government has eight local parties, namely Parti Solidariti Tanahairku (Star), Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat), Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (PHRS), United Sabah National Organisation (Usno), Liberal
Democratic Party (LDP) and Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS).
“These eight local parties are our hope in the impending state election. We must not waste this golden opportunity because the sentiment on the ground is so strong for local parties to lead Sabah’s politics,” he said at the Yayasan Sabah with the People Roadshow (YSBR) 2025 held at the Pisompuruan Square here today.
“I want the people to be united. This is the right time for us to ensure GRS wins with flying colours in the state election. GRS leaders in Tambunan must win, and we have a good leader here in Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan,” he said.
Hajiji said that over the past five years, the GRS State Government, under his leadership, has demonstrated a proven track record of bringing development to the state and its people.
“We have achieved many successes and we have successfully built up the state’s
economy based on the three economic thrusts – agricultural, industrial and tourism.
“In agriculture, we have revived the Sabah Padi and Rice Board and aiming to boost the state’s food self-sufficiency level (SSL) to 60 per cent by 2030,” he said.
Similarly, in the industrial sector, the State Government of today has attracted numerous high-impact investors due to its investor-friendly policy, with the latest being a Singapore company, which is bringing in RM31 billion in investments under three phases, he said.
“This will not only generate revenue for the state but also creates jobs,” he said.
Hajiji said the State Government has created many initiatives to uplift the people’s socioeconomic status, and this includes the RM300 monthly assistance to about 100,000 poor and hardcore poor people in Sabah for one year.
“In terms of welfare assistance, we have spent about RM1.4 billion to help 70,000
recipients, while in education, the State Government has spent RM1.33 billion under our human capital development,” he said.
“I want to ask Shafie Apdal what he has done during the past two and a half years (as Chief Minister) and during his tenure as the Rural Development Minister for almost seven years,” he said.
For this reason, Hajiji said the people must not make the wrong choice in the coming
state election.
