KOTA KINABALU : Yee Tsai Yiew, who is a Special Officer to Sabah Chief Minister, has been appointed as a Council Committee Member of the China Overseas Friendship Association (COFA).
She recently attended the association’s 6th Council First Meeting at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Yiew, a lawyer and community leader, sees her appointment as an opportunity to strengthen ties between Sabah and China.
“I am confident in the broad prospects for cooperation between Malaysia and China,
particularly in light of the ongoing “Belt and Road” initiative. I believe with the Government’s continued collaboration, the Malaysia-China relationship will thrive and reach new heights,” she said in a statement today.
Prior to this, Yiew, who also serves as the Information Chief for Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Api-Api Division, represented Sabah at the International Youth Leadership Programme (IYLP) in London.
As the sole representative from a Sabah-based political party, Yiew, along with 10 other Malaysian youth political leaders, visited several key institutions including the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Houses of Parliament, 10 Downing Street, Oxford
University, and the Northern Ireland Assembly.
“Through these exchanges with youth leaders from around the world, I have gained a broader international perspective and a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities posed by globalisation,” she said, sharing her experience through the programme.
She vowed to apply the insights and knowledge gained from the programme to her work in Sabah, contributing towards the ongoing development of the State and advocating for policies that are beneficial to the people of Sabah.
