Christina Liew
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Pakatan Harapan (Sabah PH) Chairwoman Datuk Christina Liew welcomes the statement by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor that the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah-Pakatan Harapan (GRS-PH) Plus coalition that currently forms the State Government has the strength to continue serving the people and to further develop the state.
She was speaking to reporters after opening the Workshop on The Way Forward for Effective River Management at Shangri-la Tanjung Aru, here today.
Asked to comment on Hajiji’s statement, Liew said : “The people want stability so that we can focus on economic growth for the state. We want every sector, including tourism and industrial development, to continue growing. This can only happen when there is good governance and a stable government.”
On how she felt now, she said : “The Government needs to provide a stable government to attract potential investments and boost the economy. What is important is how we can best serve the people. That’s why I keep saying that we focus now on serving the people irrespective of what party they are from.”
To a reporter’s question on whether PH is open to Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan’s suggestion that all parties working with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) contest under the same logo, Liew replied : “We are open to working with anybody when the time comes. But to me, it is too early for PH to consider this.
“Right now, we work with every party actually in providing services to the rakyat. For example, in my Api-Api Constituency, we have voters coming from various parties. That doesn’t mean we stop our services to them. We also serve them, so serving the needs of the rakyat is our main priority now.”
Therefore, the question of working with other parties or using the same logo in the next state election is perkara belakang (back matter), she added.
Asked whether she would consider not using Pakatan Harapan (PH) logo in PRU17, Liew laughed and said : “Well, I just have to make this clear. During the last State election, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) used its own party logo.
“Right now, we may consider any option but this is subject to finalisation by all parties concerned. I am sure we will eventually arrive at a most winnable solution by all parties concerned.”
