KOTA KINABALU: Member organisations of the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) were urged to work closely with the State Government in organising the Chinese New Year celebration in future.
Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew made the call when officiating at the FCAS Chinese New Year celebration at the Sabah Hakka Hall here Wednesday.
“As announced by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, the State Government will organise the State-level Chinese New Year celebration from this year onwards.
“I hope all member organisations of FCAS under the leadership of Tan Sri T C Goh will render their support and cooperation to ensure success of the event. I am given to understand there are 156 member organisations in the FCAS,” she said to applause.
Liew stressed that the presence of more than 1,000 people was a testament to the prevailing unity among members of the Chinese community, regardless of their clan.
In his address, FCAS President Tan Sri T C Goh welcomed the Chief Minister’s announcement, saying the Government’s ‘open-door’ approach augurs well for greater unity and harmony of the people hailing from various Chinese ethnic groups.
“This is a moderate and enlightened policy that indicates the Government’s openness to accepting the cultures of all ethnic groups,” he said.
Also present were Kota Kinabalu City Mayor Datuk Dr Sabin Samitah and the United Sabah Chinese Communities Association of Kota Kinabalu (USCCAKK) President Datuk Susan Wong.
