KOTA KINABALU: The Jireh Community Service Society West Coast Sabah (JCSS) is organising a Jireh Home Fundraising Dinner at the Putera Theatre Ballroom here on January 19 next year.
A three-member delegation led by Pastor Oliver Magingkar, who is the Chairman of JCSS, paid a courtesy call on Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew on Thursday to invite her to grace the event.
Briefing Liew on the institution’s post-pandemic situation, Pastor Peter Lai Kui Len, who is the Director, said Jireh Home is a shelter home for children with needs, particularly those from neglected and marginalised segments of the community.
“Presently, we have 30 children under our wing. We need your support to continue serving the needs of these underprivileged kids. Your benevolent contribution to the Jireh Home Fund-Raising Dinner will go a long way towards making a difference in their lives. We hope to raise RM100,000 from the event,” he said.
According to Pastor Lai, the proceeds will be utilised for educational purposes and improving the Home’s library resources.
“I will look into Jireh Home’s request for assistance,” Liew said, while commending JCSS for having touched the lives of needy children from rural areas for the past 17 years. Also present was Vice-Chairman Wong See Kiet.
Established in November 2006 by the Sabah Evangelical Mission Church, Jireh Home began its operation in Tamparuli in a rented premise until 2007 when it moved to a permanent house donated by Ian Ferguson Foundation at Taman Sinar Jaya, Tuaran. JCSS was registered as a non-governmental organisation (NGO) with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) in August 2010, and has run the Home since then.
