KOTA KINABALU: Sabah received a RM22.75 million grant from the Federal Government under its Ecological Fiscal Transfer (EFT) initiative in support of the State Government’s environment conservation efforts.
The grant, which has now amounted to RM126.36 million since 2019, was presented by Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) Minister Dato’ Sri Arthur Joseph Kurup to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor at Menara Kinabalu here today.
“This clearly shows the Federal Government’s acknowledgement of the State Government’s sound environment conservation policy,” said Hajiji.
“The State Government welcomes the continuous support from the Federal Government,” he added.
Also discussed were the amendment to the 1974 Environment Quality Act and the harmonisation of the National Climate Change Bill with Sabah’s legislation to ensure that the benefits of the carbon economy can be optimised by the Sabah Government.
