TAWAU: Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan said the announcement of an additional 10 units of Rumah Mesra Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) in each state constituency beginning next year as a clear reflection of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Government’s concern for the welfare of the people.
He said the move, which brings the total to 50 Rumah Mesra SMJ units per constituency across Sabah, reinforces the State Government’s commitment to ensuring that the people enjoy comfortable and affordable housing.
“This initiative demonstrates the GRS Government’s concern for the people, especially young couples who are just starting families and are struggling with the high cost of living and limited housing options. The additional units not only bring relief to the younger generation but also serve as a symbol of the effectiveness of the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) development agenda that truly impacts people’s lives,” he said in a statement today.
According to him, the Rumah Mesra SMJ project reflects the State Government’s sincerity and determination to ensure inclusive housing development across all areas — both urban and rural.
Nizam also commended the State Government’s approach in fostering strategic collaboration between the public and private sectors, saying it is an effective strategy to accelerate development while allowing state financial resources to be channelled towards other socio-economic initiatives that directly benefit the people.
“In recent years, under the leadership of Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Haji Noor, the Sabah Maju Jaya agenda has proven to be more than just a slogan — it is a concrete action plan implemented consistently with a genuine focus on the people’s real needs,” added the Apas Assemblyman.
Nizam urged the people of Sabah, especially the younger generation, to view this initiative as clear evidence that the GRS Government works sincerely and remains focused on public wellbeing, rather than engaging in politics or making empty promises.
