KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Mineral Management Sdn Bhd (SMM), the State Government’s agency overseeing the mining sector in Sabah, has commenced legal proceedings in the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak to address serious allegations of misconduct and breaches of trust involving former personnel and external parties.
In a statement today, the company said this legal action seeks redress over fraud, breach of fiduciary duties and confidentiality, tampering with official documents, conspiracy to injure by unlawful means and potential collusion with third parties, all implicating SMM’s former employee and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jontih Enggihon @ Jontih Inggihon and external third party Tei Jiann Chieng, who is also known as Albert Tei.
All cause papers have been duly served on the defendants in Kota Kinabalu and Kuala Lumpur, ensuring proper notification of the proceedings.
“SMM is taking this step to safeguard its interests, as well as the State Government and the people of Sabah.
“The company will continue to maintain the highest standards of corporate governance and remain accountable to the State and the people,” said the statement.
The company said reports regarding the misconduct involving SMM’s former CEO, along with potential collusion with third parties have also been lodged with relevant enforcement agencies, including the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), to support broader investigations into the matter and compliance with regulatory obligations.
