KOTA KINABALU: Excitement filled the air and the sound of football boots echoed across the field as 10 teams from all over Malaysia came together for a thrilling two-day football tournament in Sabah, starting yesterday.
Organised by United Malaysia, the official Manchester United supporters club of the country, the event celebrated skill, camaraderie and spirited competition, drawing fans from Sabah, Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur.
Held at Penampang Stadium, the United Malaysia Football Carnival 2024 featured six teams from Sabah — SRD Mancunian, Akuma FT, Sabah Tourism Board, BMU FC, SRD Newton Heath, and Kapazan Red Devils; two from Sarawak — BDR FC and Saif FC; and two from Kuala Lumpur — Old Trafford KL and KLMRD. They competed in a series of action-packed matches that showcased their passion for the sport.
Despite the fun and friendly atmosphere, the competitive energy was undeniable. Spectators were treated to dramatic tackles, dazzling footwork and thrilling moments as players bonded over their shared love for Manchester United.
The final showdown saw Old Trafford KL dominate Akuma FT with an impressive 5-0 victory, securing their triumph in the tournament.

Organising Chairman Daniel Roman expressed his pride in hosting the event in Sabah.
“We are honoured to host this competition in Sabah, bringing together friends from Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur and our home state to participate. It’s been a fantastic experience, and we are grateful to everyone who made this event a success,” he said.
United Malaysia President Batholomew Jingulam highlighted the deeper purpose of the tournament.
“At United Malaysia, we aim to bring fans together not just to celebrate Manchester United but to foster lasting friendships. This tournament is about building community, creating connections and strengthening the bonds we share as supporters,” he said.
“We hope events like this inspire fans to continue playing the game they love and remind them that football unites us all, no matter where we’re from.”
As the final whistle blew and the winners were crowned, the tournament left behind more than scores and highlights. It was a reminder that football is more than just competition — it’s about friendship, unity and the pure joy of playing the beautiful game.
