KOTA KINABALU: A charity dinner hosted by the Board of Visitors of Sri Pritchard Old Folks Home, Kinarut, at Putera Ballroom in Bukit Padang here on Oct 20 successfully raised RM200,000.
Spearheaded by Datin Rachel Rayah Jeremiah, the current Vice President and Treasurer of the Board of Visitors for the 2023-2025 term, the event aimed to raise essential funds to address pressing repair needs, including fixing leaking pipes, replacing broken tiles and establishing a recreational park for light exercise.
Beyond fundraising, the event sought to inspire greater community involvement in the care and wellbeing of the elderly.
The event emphasised the longstanding need to improve amenities and create a more livable environment for the home’s residents.
Organisers hoped that the charity dinner would act as a catalyst, encouraging further support from compassionate individuals and corporate partners.
The presence of Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk James Ratib lent significance to the evening, demonstrating the State Government’s commitment to enhancing elderly care.
Also present was Sabah General Welfare Services Department Director Jais Asri whose invaluable support and guidance in organising the event reflected his dedication to ensuring that the elderly live with dignity, respect and comfort.
“Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of the community and corporate sponsors, the event successfully raised over RM200,000,” said Rachel who expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the members of the Board of Visitors, acknowledging their tireless efforts in making the event a success.
“The funds raised will allow us to expedite much-needed repairs and upgrades, ensuring that Sri Pritchard Old Folks Home becomes a safe, comfortable and nurturing environment for its residents,” she said.
The charity dinner marked not just a
night of generosity but a step forward in fostering compassion and community responsibility for the wellbeing of the elderly.
The Board of Visitors hopes that donations and support will continue to pour in from like-minded individuals, companies and corporations.
