KOTA KINABALU: Persatuan Karyawan Malaysia’s effort to raise funds for artistes who are incapacitated and in need of help is laudable, says Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew.
She urged the public to support the forthcoming charity dinner with the theme “Legends” in aid of the association’s welfare fund.
“The Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry will render the necessary assistance within its capacity,” Liew told a delegation led by legendary Malaysian singer Datuk Khadijah Ibrahim here recently.
Despite her injury in a road accident in Beaufort last month, Khadijah, who is also a veteran Malaysian actress, was full of spirit and enthusiasm when she briefed the Minister on the fundraising dinner concert during the courtesy call.
She said the event will be held at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here on November 1, starting at 8 pm.
Apart from herself as an entertainer, 10 other Malaysian celebrities will enliven the evening namely Man Keedal, Aina Abdul, Dato’ Jamal Abdillah, Dato’ Ramli Sarip, Jimmy Palikat, Ayu Damit, Azharina Azhar, Mad Sabah, Daniesh Suffian and Hairee Kool, among them Sabahan vocalists.
According to Khadijah, there are some 7,000 artistes in the country, and many of them are members of Persatuan Karyawan Malaysia, who were adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Proceeds from the three-hour dinner concert will go towards alleviating the plight of members who are unemployed, wheelchair-bound or require medical treatment,” she said, adding that 15 artistes from Sabah are in need of financial aid.
Khadijah was accompanied by two members of her organising committee, Datuk Zahra Ismail and Zorah Khan.
Also present was the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Datuk Josie Lai.
