KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) has handled a total of 4,578,661 passengers from January 1 to August 5 this year as reported by Malaysia Airports Sdn Bhd (MASB) Senior Airport Manager (KKIA) Haji Jefry Ramli, said Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew.
Liew was briefed on the current status of passenger movement and facilities at the KKIA during the ministry’s post-Cabinet meeting yesterday.
“When compared with the total of 5,576,110 passengers for the corresponding period (January 1 to August 5, 2019), the overall recovery rate against 2019 is 82pc. For the domestic segment, the recovery rate is 92pc while that of the international segment is 63pc,” she said in a statement today.
On the airport’s Phase One toilet upgrading project, it was pointed out that the ongoing refurbishment of five existing toilets costing RM2.5 million is estimated to be completed by mid-September, while Phase Two involving the refurbishment of 21 existing toilets is expected to commence in October.
As for preparations for the upcoming National-level Malaysia Day celebration on September 16, hosted by the Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry (KePKAS), Liew and Federal Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil will co-chair the Celebration Main Organising Committee meeting next week to finalise the details.
