Liew drumming home her message at the Perhimpunan Perdana Rakyat event.
KOTA KINABALU: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has come a long way from the early years of its formation to be a multiracial party capable of uniting a nation, said Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sabah Chairman Datuk Christina Liew.
She stressed that PKR is the voice of the people regardless of race and religion, and has continued to fight for the people’s rights for the past 25 years.
Speaking at the Perhimpunan Perdana Rakyat event organised by Sabah PKR at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) on Sunday, Liew said PKR is a true reflection of unity and loyalty to Malaysia just as Malaysians are loyal to the King and Country.
“Similarly, we are loyal to our party and President even though we had to wait for 20 years to win (and form the PH Government) and 23 years to see Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim appointed as the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
“This party is trusted by Malaysians with branches in all 222 parliamentary constituencies throughout Malaysia, including the 25 parliamentary constituencies in Sabah.

“PKR members come from various races such as Malay, Chinese, Indian, Bajau, Kadazan, Dusun, Murut, Rungus, Iban, Bidayuh and many others. This diversity is not only at the grassroots level but even at the highest level of party leadership.”
On a personal note, the PH Sabah Chairman said she joined PKR in 1999 when the party spread its wings to Sabah. “From the outset, I chose to be with PKR because I am confident in its struggle. I myself was the first Sabah PKR candidate in 2001 when I contested in the Likas by-election that year. The rest is history.”
Saying Malaysia is a nation state made up of diverse races, Liew asserted that strengthening of a nation state is crucial for unity so that there is no conflict that only harms the country.
“If Sabah or the nation is threatened by outside forces, we are able to unite to defend our homeland. This is what is said to be a nation state,” she said.
