KOTA KINABALU: The 12th annual Coalition Duchenne Expedition Mt Kinabalu charity climb was launched by Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru here today.
Liew was represented by her Ministry’s Principal Senior Assistant Secretary Murad Abdul Rashid.
Coalition Duchenne founder and leader of the Expedition Mt Kinabalu charity climb Catherine Jayasuriya, who was present, said the event aimed to raise awareness and support for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). DMD is a rare genetic condition affecting about 1 in 3,500 male children, making it the most common genetic childhood disease.
This time around, the Expedition Mt Kinabalu featured the Wearable Robot Exoskeleton (WRE) technology which allows individuals with DMD to utilise their own limbs with support from the device, enabling them to stand and walk with assistance.
