Gee Tien Siong
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Vice President Gee Tien Siong welcomed the decision made by the Federal Government as announced by Prime Minister cum Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to spare Sabah and Sarawak from the retraction of diesel subsidy.
He said the decision greatly benefits the people of these regions and ensures continued access to affordable diesel fuel.
“Furthermore, I kindly urge the Federal Finance Ministry to strive to maintain the ceiling retail price of diesel for private vehicles at RM2.15 per litre.
“This would be a significant relief for the people of Sabah, helping us manage in these challenging times.
“We look forward to the Federal Government continuing to heed the needs of Sabahans, and to a positive outcome for the benefit of Sabahans, and Malaysians as whole,” said the Luyang Community Development Leader (PPM) in a statement today.
On Nov 3, Anwar said the retargeting of the diesel subsidy in phases would only be carried out in Peninsula Malaysia and would not involve Sabah and Sarawak due to the comprehensive use of diesel in these states.
“In order to implement it there, we will have to study the impact,” he said in winding up the debate on the Supply Bill 2024 at the policy stage in the Dewan Rakyat.
Anwar said the total annual subsidy cost which has reached RM81bil is also being enjoyed by foreign nationals and the rich.
