KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Haji Noor has called on the people, especially the younger generation, to continue fostering the spirit of patriotism, preserving unity and safeguarding harmony amid the diversity of races and religions in the state.
“Unity among the various races is the key to our strength and must continue to be upheld, especially in this modern era,” he said in his message in conjunction with this year’s National Day and Sabah Day celebrations.
The Chief Minister said the National Day and Sabah Day celebrations, which are jointly observed on Aug 31, should not merely be remembered but deeply appreciated in order to foster patriotism and honour the sacrifices of the nation’s fighters who fought for independence.
“I believe these two important celebrations can serve as a unifying force for all Malaysians in Sabah, who come from diverse racial and religious backgrounds,” he said.
Hajiji said this year’s National Day theme, “Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati”, reflects the Government’s commitment to building a progressive, inclusive and harmonious nation, while ensuring that the benefits of the country’s prosperity are shared fairly by all Malaysians.
“Meanwhile, Sabah Day, themed ‘Sabah Tanah Airku’, reflects the people’s love, pride and loyalty towards the state.
“The theme also conveys the message of the importance of togetherness and a sense of belonging among people of various races in preserving harmony, which will contribute to the state’s progress and prosperity,” he said.
The Chief Minister also called on all people in the state to fly the Jalur Gemilang and the Sabah flag at their respective homes, offices, vehicles and business premises as an effort to foster patriotism and love for the country.
“Let us continue to unite in rejecting elements that seek to divide the harmony among the people in the state. May these celebrations serve as a platform for us to further strengthen our identity, unity and harmony for the progress of the state,” he said.
