KOTA KINABALU: The State Government has welcomed the Federal Youth and Sports Ministry’s commitment to bringing more youth and sports development initiatives to Sabah.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said the Federal initiatives would complement the State Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen human capital development and sports in the state.
“Sports are also an important platform to nurture unity,” he said during a meeting with Federal Youth and Sports Minister Dr Muhammed Taufiq Johari at Menara Kinabalu here today.
Also present were State Youth Development, Sports Advancement and Creative Economy Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan and Permanent Secretary Datuk Mansur Asun.
During the courtesy call, Dr Muhammed said his Ministry had earmarked several programmes for sports and youth development in Sabah.
He said Sabah also has strong potential to develop a niche market, particularly in sports tourism.
Dr Muhammed also commended Sabah for its commitment in sending a 200-strong contingent to support the national Youth Day celebration to be held in Negeri Sembilan later this month.
