KOTA KINABALU: The Centre for Languages and Generic Development (CLGD), University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF Sabah), successfully carried out a series of community service initiatives throughout 2025, demonstrating the university’s strong commitment to social responsibility and holistic student development.
A total of 14 community service projects were implemented across Sabah, involving more than 350 students who contributed to outreach efforts within local communities.
The projects addressed a wide range of needs, including support for orphaned children and asnaf communities, environmental conservation, educational and language enrichment, creative school improvement and public awareness initiatives.
Activities were conducted at welfare homes, schools, conservation sites, kindergartens and public institutions, enabling students to apply communication, teamwork and leadership skills in real-world settings.
Currently, UCSF Sabah has more than 1,000 students across four faculties, namely the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Sustainability, Faculty of Development and Media Studies, Faculty of Arts and Creative Media and the Faculty of Management and Entrepreneurship.
Students from these faculties were actively involved in the community service programmes, reflecting a university-wide culture of service and civic engagement.
UCSF Vice Chancellor Datuk Dr Rafiq Idris commended the collective effort.
“Community service is a cornerstone of holistic education at UCSF Sabah. Such initiatives play a crucial role in shaping graduates who are socially responsible, compassionate, and aware of their role in nation-building,” he said.
Meanwhile, Head of the Centre for Languages and Generic Development William Bunyau highlighted the educational impact of the programmes.
“These initiatives provide valuable opportunities for students to engage with society meaningfully while developing essential soft skills that will benefit them beyond their academic journey,” he said.
The community service programmes organised by CLGD continue to strengthen UCSF Sabah’s ties with the wider community while reinforcing the university’s mission to produce well-rounded, socially conscious graduates.
