KOTA KINABALU: First-time visitors who came to participate in the 21st Sabah Open Dancesport Championship 2025 were urged to explore Sabah as a world-class eco-tourism destination.
Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew made the call when officiating at the event held at Hotel Promenade on Saturday night.
“Take this opportunity to visit the nearby islands and explore the majestic Mount Kinabalu and Kinabalu Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, among the many attractions that Sabah can offer.
“Do take advantage of our newly launched ‘Hop On, Hop Off’ city bus service to tour places of interest in and around Kota Kinabalu City,” she said.

Some 160 participants, including overseas competitors from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines, vied for honours in the championship.
The Minister commended the Imperial Ballroom Dancing School Kota Kinabalu and other dancing schools in the state for their positive contribution to building a healthier and more vibrant society.
“You have provided opportunities for both the young and the elderly to express themselves with confidence and to showcase their natural talents,” she said.
The Imperial Ballroom Dancing School Kota Kinabalu Principal and the organising chairman Antony Keung said organising the event for the 21st time was a monumental task.
“This would not be possible without the unwavering support of many individuals, organisations, and well-wishers. Our appreciation goes especially to the Tourism Minister for her consistent support for this championship. It is this very support that has been the cornerstone of our success.
“Her Ministry’s vision in promoting culture and dancesport has allowed this annual event to flourish and put Sabah firmly on the global dancesport map,” he added.
Keung also introduced Liew to the competition’s Chief Judge William Lor, who is the President of the Hong Kong Ballroom Dancers Association; Lawrence Chan, President of the Malaysia Dancers Association; Yeap Yen Chin; and a panel of 20 adjudicators.
