RANAU: The Sabah Government has unveiled a 15-year Strategic Development Plan aimed at driving inclusive economic growth in Ranau while safeguarding its unique cultural and environmental heritage.
Launched by Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, who is also Karanaan Assemblyman, the plan charts a development course from 2025 to 2040, with a focus on balanced progress across both urban and rural communities.
Masidi underscored Ranau’s distinctive strengths, highlighting its vast potential as a leading destination for highland and agro-tourism.
“Ranau is blessed with exceptional natural beauty and a deep-rooted cultural heritage. This strategic plan is designed to harness those assets for the benefit of all segments of society,” he said.
Developed by the Institute for Development Studies (IDS) (Sabah), the roadmap outlines seven core areas of focus: modern rural community development, effective governance, human capital excellence, world-class tourism destinations, food security, sustainable resource management and socioeconomic wellbeing.
Masidi also emphasised Ranau’s global standing, particularly its UNESCO Triple Crown designation, which reflects the district’s rich biodiversity and cultural significance.
He stressed that the success of the plan depends on collective ownership and participation, especially from local communities and government agencies.
“This is not just a Government initiative. It’s a shared vision that requires the active involvement of every resident and stakeholder,” he said.
The Minister described the plan as a flexible and evolving document – capable of adapting to future challenges, technological developments and shifting community needs.
“It’s a living roadmap that will grow alongside us, ensuring that the aspirations of the people of Ranau continue to be realised in the years ahead,” said Masidi.
