KOTA KINABALU: Air services between Kota Kinabalu and Lahad Datu are unlikely to be affected by an imminent change in the service provider.
The services are reported to be ‘in the balance’ allegedly due to the entry of AirBorneo taking over the current service provider, Maswings.
Responding to the news report headlined in the Daily Express newspaper, POIC Sabah Sdn Bhd Chairman Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee said the KK-LD has been a viable sector for Maswings which has four flights daily on the route.
“I hope to be meeting up with AirBorneo and Sarawak authorities soon to discuss the proposed upgrading and continuation of the air services between Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan and Tawau,” said Yong.
It is reported that the Sarawak Government has set up the AirBorneo which will take over the air services between East Malaysian destinations currently run by Maswings, a subsidiary of national carrier Malaysia Airline.
POIC Sabah develops and manages the POIC Lahad Datu industrial park, a major hub for industrial and logistics activities.
‘The business people depend on the Maswings services. I don’t see any good reason for AirBorneo to change anything,” said Yong.
