KOTA KINABALU: Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew has been invited to be a panel speaker at the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Sabah Contingent’s Amanita Forum this Thursday (Oct 17).
The Forum on “Challenges faced by Women Today in Raising Happy Families” is being organised by the PDRM Department of Crime Prevention and Community Safety (JPJKK Sabah) at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Recital Hall here.
Head of Sabah Amanita Supt Dr Lim Chui Lee extended the invitation to the Minister during a recent courtesy call.
Liew commended JPJKK Sabah for taking the initiative in the interest of women’s protection and welfare.
Wife of the Chief Minister Datin Seri Hajah Juliah Salag will officially open the forum.
Briefing Liew on the forum, Dr Lim said it serves as a platform for a dialogue with the women community where the state’s women leaders get to interact with them and offer advice as well as share information on crime prevention measures and useful tips on how to create happy families while pursuing their careers.
“The key objective is to raise awareness on crime cases and domestic issues affecting their well-being as they (womenfolk) are often victims of crime perpetration (including exploitation of women, human trafficking and being made drug mules), and domestic violence.
“As the forum is an important part of PDRM Amanita Community Policing, we aim to address common social issues from various perspectives, including crime prevention, community safety, education, law and order, and legislation pertaining to women,” explained Dr Lim, emphasising the need to forge rapport between the police force and the general public, particularly members of the women community (female students, girls with personal problems, working women, housewives, single mothers, and victims of wife abuse).
Also present were Sub-Inspector Sukarni Yaacob (JPJKK Sabah Tourist Police Unit), Sergeant Ismah Rifin (JPJKK Sabah Tourist Police Unit) and Corporal Nurulkhafidah Haflin Andami (JPJKK Community Coordination).
