KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Logistics Council (SLC), an entity under the State Works Ministry and chaired by Deputy Chief Minister III cum Works Minister Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya, reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate with port operators, shipping companies, and all stakeholders.
In response to recent industry grievances and issues related to Sepanggar Port congestion highlighted in the media, the council said its goal is to identify and implement immediate measures to alleviate the current congestion at Sapangar Bay Container Port and prevent the need for surcharges that could burden local industries and consumers.
“The SLC is fully aware of the significant impact that port congestion and potential surcharges can have on Sabah’s economy.
“We are dedicated to not only addressing these immediate concerns but also developing sustainable, long-term solutions. Our focus is on expediting these efforts with the utmost seriousness and urgency,” it said in a statement today.
To this end, the SLC will be conducting a series of urgent meetings and consultations with key stakeholders.
It said these discussions aim to develop and implement strategies that enhance the efficiency and capacity of our port infrastructure.
“By improving logistics operations, we aim to facilitate smoother trade flows and bolster the economic vitality of Sabah.”
The SLC comprises council members from both the public and private sectors, ensuring a comprehensive and inclusive approach to problem-solving. This diverse representation allows us to address the concerns of all parties involved and work towards a robust and competitive logistics sector in Sabah.
“Our commitment is to ensure that Sabah’s logistics framework supports continued growth and prosperity. We believe that through collaboration and swift action, we can resolve the current challenges and set a strong foundation for the future,” it said.
