SANDAKAN: The National Accredited cum Certificated Umpires course was successfully held at Sandakan Sports Complex here on July 27-28.
A total of 46 candidates attended this course, proving that more officials were keen to officiate as badminton umpires.
Most of the 15 candidates were school teachers, while the rest 10 were school students, nine were self-employed; six Prison Department officials; three administrative officials; two technical officials and one from the Information Department, Sandakan. The majority of the candidates came from Sandakan and Kinabatangan.
The newly-appointed Technical Chairman of Sabah Badminton Association Datuk Sr. Anthony C Linggian conducted the course with all the latest procedures of Umpire requirements, including most importantly, the adherence of the latest standard procedures in organising any tournaments, particularly from district or club levels.
Kinabatangan Badminton Association President Sudirman Abas was very impressed to witness the 1st National Umpires Course held in Sandakan.
He was also very grateful to the new Sabah Badminton Association President Datuk Maijol Mahap for supporting the course with urgency.
Maijol hopes to see more technical courses being organised in various districts to solve the great shortage of technical officers in the State.
MIMBAR PERMUAFAKATAN SABAH (Malaysia Parent Consensus Pulpit) Deputy President Haji Otoh Sibik Sahak officiated the closing ceremony and presented certificates on behalf of the Sabah Badminton Association to all the 46 candidates.
