KOTA KINABALU: Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe has reaffirmed the Sabah Government’s steadfast support to SK Nexilis, emphasising its dedication to fostering the ongoing prosperity of the South Korean company’s operations in Sabah.
He highlighted the integral connection between the success of SK Nexilis and the advancement of Sabah and Malaysia as a whole.
Phoong expressed this to Lyou Kwangmin, the newly-appointed CEO of SK Nexilis headquarters, during a cordial meeting at the Hyatt Regency Kinabalu here today.
During the meeting, Phoong drew attention to SK Nexilis Malaysia’s noteworthy accomplishment of exporting its inaugural copper foil product for electric vehicles (EV) with a value of RM1.9 million in October 2023.

He expressed a desire to incentivise further investment from SK Nexilis, potentially amounting to an additional RM300 million injected into Sabah, saying this strategic initiative aims to create employment opportunities for the local population.
Phoong underscored the Sabah Government’s unwavering commitment to expeditiously establishing essential infrastructure.
“This infrastructure not only facilitates the expansion of SK Nexilis’ subsidiary investments but also caters to the broader needs of the Sabah community,” he said.
Moreover, Phoong emphasised the pivotal role of industrial development in Sabah.
“We must concentrate our efforts on bolstering the state’s GDP through the industrial sector. It is imperative for Sabah to capitalise on its abundant natural resources.”
He said his Ministry remains steadfast in its dedication to attracting and facilitating high-value investments into the region.
The meeting was also attended by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Datuk Thomas Logijin, KKIP CEO Lawrence G Kimkuan, KKIP Deputy CEO Cecilia Amid and Shin Donghwan, CEO of SK Nexilis Malaysia.
