Hajiji mingles with guests at the thanksgiving ceremony and Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house hosted by Abdul Hakim at Dewan Sri Perdana, Lahad Datu, today.
LAHAD DATU: Lahad Datu has strong potential to serve as a strategic site for a rocket or satellite launch facility in the Southeast Asian region, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Haji Noor.
He said that within the next few years, the district is likely to be selected as a launch centre for the region.
“God willing, within the next two to three years, if there are no obstacles, Lahad Datu is the most suitable location to be developed as a rocket and satellite launch centre in Southeast Asia.
“This development will make Lahad Datu a focal point for many, including tourists as well as space scientists from within and outside the country. It will undoubtedly serve as a catalyst for the district’s economic growth,” he said at a thanksgiving ceremony and Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house hosted by Datuk Haji Abdul Hakim Haji Gulam Hassan at Dewan Sri Perdana here today.
The Chief Minister said Lahad Datu was identified as the most suitable location based on a final study conducted by the State Government in collaboration with the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry.
“Many states have lobbied to host this (satellite launch site), but findings from the study indicate that Lahad Datu is the most suitable location for the project,” he said.
Meanwhile, he stressed that the State Government will continue to prioritise development and the well-being of the people in Lahad Datu.
“I had intended to visit Lahad Datu several times before the last election, but due to unavoidable circumstances, I was unable to come here to campaign.
“What is important is that I hope the people will remain united and make the best choice for our shared future. The current State Government has a clear direction and has implemented various initiatives for the progress of Sabah.
“Do not be easily influenced by slander or baseless accusations. Instead, we must uphold truth and fairly assess the Government’s efforts,” he said.
