KUALA LUMPUR: Urban lifestyle developer Titijaya Land Berhad (“Titijaya” or “the Group”) yesterday announced the development of Block B1 & B2, Kolej Kediaman Pelajar UMS Numbak, breathing new life into a long-abandoned project that will serve as student hostels for Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) in Kota Kinabalu.
This initiative marks a major step toward alleviating the persistent shortage of quality student accommodation at UMS.
In May 2025, Titijaya announced the proposed acquisition of two property assets in Kota Kinabalu for RM105 million, stepping in as the white knight of the abandoned development. The Group is committed to completing the remaining works and delivering safe, comfortable, and affordable accommodation for UMS students.

On Saturday, Higher Education Minister Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr Zambry Abd Kadir visited the Block B1 & B2 project site during an official working visit. He was accompanied by UMS Vice Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Kasim Hj. Mansor, together with senior management representatives from Titijaya.
Titijaya Group Managing Director Datuk Lim Poh Yit said:
“We are thrilled to announce the development of Block B1 & B2, Kolej Kediaman Pelajar UMS Numbak, in partnership with Universiti Malaysia Sabah, one of Malaysia’s leading public universities with more than 18,000 students.
“By working together to increase the availability of quality student accommodation in Kota Kinabalu, we are fully aligned with Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr Zambry Abd Kadir and the Higher Education Ministry in their efforts to enhance the standard of public university education across Malaysia.
“We view this as a private–public partnership that fosters collaboration between industry leaders, the Government, and educational institutions for the greater social good.
“We are proud to have been selected as the white knight to revive this project, marking our third successful revival of an abandoned or sick project in Sabah.”
He said through this initiative, Titijaya Group aim to address the student housing shortage faced by UMS in recent years, providing safe, comfortable and accessible accommodation that enables students to thrive.
