KIULU: Parti Bersatu Sabah’s (PBS) unwavering stand throughout its history is proof of its sincerity in fighting for the people of Sabah, said its Information Chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai.
He stressed that PBS has remained consistent in defending the rights and interests of Sabahans, regardless of shifting political tides over the decades.
Joniston, who is also Kiulu Assemblyman, recalled that PBS leaders had stood at the forefront of challenging federal dominance, often at great personal sacrifice.
“We remember when leaders like Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan and Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili faced immense pressure and even arrests for speaking up for Sabah’s rights.
“This is proof of our sincerity and our commitment to the people,” he said during a meet-the-people programme at Kampung Kotunuan here today.
Building on this legacy, Joniston said PBS views Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), a coalition of homegrown parties, as the most credible vehicle to carry Sabah’s aspirations forward.
“GRS is where local voices come together, and it provides the best platform to ensure political stability while pursuing development for the people.
“Within GRS, PBS continues to be a key driver in advancing the aspirations of Sabahans and remains steady in its unity and sincerity in championing the people’s struggle,” stressed Joniston, who is also GRS Information Chief.
He also acknowledged the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor in uniting Sabah’s local parties under the GRS umbrella.
“We are now in a different era, and the spirit of GRS is about unity and cooperation for Sabah’s future, and PBS remains committed to playing its role alongside fellow components as partners in building lasting stability and meaningful progress for Sabah,” he said.
