KOTA KINABALU: Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew welcomed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement that the Federal Government will channel an immediate allocation of RM80 million to set up a National Heart Centre in Sabah, making it the second largest heart treatment centre in Malaysia, after the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur.
She described this as a piece of good news for Sabah as it is for the benefit of the people.
“When the National Heart Centre Sabah is completed, Malaysians in Sabah will be able to receive cardiac treatment without having to travel to the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur.
“We support the efforts of the Federal and State Governments in pushing for improved health facilities and services for Malaysians, especially in Sabah,” Liew told reporters at the Keadilan’s 25th Anniversary Convention cum Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration at the Magellan Sutera Resort here today.
From another perspective, the facility would spur medical tourism in Sabah, added the Minister.
