KOTA KINABALU: Sabahans have been urged to look beyond the “noise and speculation” surrounding the early-morning swearing-in of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Chairman Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Haji Noor as Chief Minister.
Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Moyog Divisional Deputy Chief Datuk Aminah Ambrose said the swift action was crucial to protect Sabah from political instability.
She said the rapid formation of the new coalition government was not unusual, but a necessary response to ensure continuity and prevent a governance vacuum after Sunday’s state election.
“In politics, there is an old saying: ‘To govern effectively, it always comes down to numbers.’ A stable government requires a solid majority.
“That is why parties must move quickly to build cooperation and unite under a strong coalition. The rakyat cannot afford uncertainty,” Aminah said in a statement today.
She said Hajiji’s position as the leader whose coalition secured the most seats — 29 in total — placed him in the strongest and most legitimate position to helm the new administration.
With 37 seats needed to form a simple majority, Aminah said several political parties and independents had come forward to align with GRS, driven by a shared commitment to stability and Sabah’s long-term progress.
“Their willingness to work together reflects a shared passion for building a better Sabah and demonstrates political maturity as well as an understanding of what the rakyat needs most — stability, direction and confidence that development will continue,” she said.
Aminah emphasised that only a united and stable coalition could deliver timely decisions, uninterrupted services and policies that genuinely benefit the people.
“A united coalition means a stable government that can serve the rakyat confidently, without fear of disruption. That is what Sabah deserves,” she said, reaffirming the commitment of the Gagasan Rakyat Moyog division to supporting all efforts that strengthen the state’s governance and future.
She also commended Hajiji’s inclusive leadership, noting the support extended by Barisan Nasional (BN) and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (StarSabah), two of the winning parties in the election.
“I believe Hajiji values inclusivity and does not leave anyone behind. Despite our different political ideologies, he recognises that we are all Sabahans,” she said.
