KOTA KINABALU: Cherish your life, Stay away from Drugs, Say No to Drugs! It destroys lives, shatters families and undermines the potential of our youth. Beware of the dangers of drug abuse, a global crisis. Make the right choices in life.
So, leaders, educators, parents and concerned citizens must work together to create a drug-free environment for our future generations. Prevention starts with us—it starts in our homes, in our schools and in our communities.
That was a powerful take-home message of the “No More Drugs” movie premiere screening targeted at schools, workplaces and our communities. It was organised by the Lions Clubs International District 308-A2 in Sabah at the Glory Christian Centre here last night.
Leading the 2000 strong audience, mainly youths, in chanting “No More Drugs” was Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew who launched the movie premiere, featuring real-life struggles, the consequences of poor choices and the harsh realities of substance abuse.
The Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry (KePKAS) was the main sponsor.
Liew presented a contribution of RM30,000 to Organising Chairperson Alyssa Lim in support of the premiere screening. Senior Pastor of Glory Christian Centre Rev Dr William Vun expressed his gratitude to the Minister for the contribution.

Liew reminded the youths from schools, colleges, universities, youth organisations and community groups that life is full of possibilities.
“Do not let drugs steal your future. Surround yourself with positive influences, focus on your dreams and never be afraid to seek help if you are facing challenges.”
Liew said the ‘No More Drugs’ movie is a wake-up call.
“Every individual lost to drugs represents a lost dream, a broken family and a weakened community. Let us stand united in our commitment to saying No More Drugs! Let this event be the start of renewed efforts in our fight against substance abuse. Together, we can build a safer, healthier, and drug-free Sabah.”
She commended the Lions Clubs International for their continuous commitment to community service. “Your dedication to improving society through initiatives like this demonstrates the very essence of leadership and compassion. By bringing awareness to the dangers of drugs through this film, you are playing a crucial role in shaping a healthier and safer future for our society.”
The Minister reiterated that the fight against drugs is not just the responsibility of law enforcement or government agencies, adding it is a collective responsibility and each of us has a role to play in protecting our society from this menace.
Saying events like the “No More Drugs” movie premiere are so crucial as they serve as a platform for awareness, education and prevention, Liew pledged continued support for similar anti-drug abuse campaigns in the future, with Lim as Organising Chairperson.
“Together, we are stronger. Together, we can make a real difference,” said Lim in her address earlier.
