PENAMPANG: The Kaamatan Festival which honours the rice spirit called Bambazon and thanks Kinoingan the God, have united Sabahans not only in Sabah but other states in the country, said Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) Youth Council Chairman Steve Johnny Mositun.
The six KDCA branches in the Peninsular namely Johor, Putrajaya, Klang Valley, Penang, Perak, Melaka and Sarawak prove the Kadazan, Dusun, Murut and Rungus (KDMR) through these branches are proud to celebrate and unite as a community, he said.
“Kaamatan is among the most highlighted events In Sabah. Despite a lot of viral postings on social media, calm in handling comments shows the association is mature and focused on its role as a non-governmental organization (NGO).
“Let us move forward and focus on meaningful things and development together as a unique community culture,” he said in a statement today.
The role of the KDCA Youth wing is to inspire younger generations to value positive traits and be part of this NGO.
“We are not able to provide any luxury things but I believe the most important role is when a person or community is willing to contribute their ideas and innovation according to what our culture believes.
“We accept the world of the digital era that has turned any celebration into a highlight by everyone yet there will either be positive or negative outcomes to any individuals, groups and community.
“Let us not forget the KDCA has made local activities, and practices into one of the most recognized events in Malaysia.
“Let us find the best solution in our dissatisfaction with issues rather than condemning each other,” he said, adding his Council always welcomes all KDMR youths and the community to be part of KDCA as preservation is the key to ensuring the future generations understand their roots.
To hold the Kaamatan Festival celebration takes a lot of effort, time and expense, yet the association always gives its best, he said.
