KUALA LUMPUR: The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) hoped the police, especially the Special Branch, could act promptly against those individuals, politicians included, who made racially or religiously sensitive statements or engaged in actions which could undermine racial harmony in the country.
Its President Tan Sri T C Goh said the police can always take appropriate actions within the law to stop them from doing so.
He said this during the courtesy call by the delegation from the Bukit Aman Special Branch led by its Director of Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department DCP Zainuddin Ahmad at Wisma Huazong here Friday. Also in attendance were Huazong Deputy President Dato’ Lim Kah Chuan, its two Vice Presidents Dato’ Lam Kuang Yau and Wong Keng Tong, its Treasurer-General and Deputy Treasurer-General Tan Sri Tan Kean Soon and Dato’Ng Chin Heng, Vice Secretary-General Yong Yew Wei, as well as central committee members Datuk Dr Hoo Chin Pow, Goh Han Koon and Oh Kian Kiong; while accompanying Zainuddin were several Bukit Aman Special Branch senior officers including ACP Md Khairuddin Hussin, DSP Mazli Mamat, ASP Mohd Elmi Izha Md Alui and Inspector Nur Zahirah Zahaludin among others.
While acknowledging that the Special Branch plays a crucial role in maintaining peace, stability and harmony in the country, Goh who is also President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) opined that the Government and the police should continue to forge close cooperation with the people towards achieving this goal.
He also acknowledged that the Special Branch could from time to time provide important views and suggestions to the Government to better maintain national security and promote harmony among the people.
“We in Huazong are always prepared to play our role to better promote racial unity and harmony in Malaysia!” he said.
Besides this, he also gave a brief introduction on Huazong’s organisational structure and its objectives, especially on the important role played by Huazong i.e. as the ‘bridge’ between the government and the Chinese community.
Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of Bukit Aman Special Branch Director Datuk Baharuddin Ahamad, Zainuddin informed Goh that the courtesy call on Huazong leaderships was aimed chiefly to forge closer cooperation with Chinese organisations in the country, besides gathering feedback on various important issues.
He said the Special Branch’s main task is to provide the Government with professional and effective measures to help resolve conflicts and disputes involving the communities.
He added that the Special Branch would always remain firm in defending and promoting a peaceful and harmonious multiracial society in Malaysia.
“The Special Branch plays a crucial role in this aspect. Hence, when there’s any conflict or dispute among the people, especially from different communities, it has to be promptly and professionally resolved,” he said.
He also acknowledged that some of the disputes in the past were caused by some extreme-minded individuals or those politicians with selfish agendas.
He also praised the leaders and the people of Sabah and Sarawak for continuing to preserve and promote peaceful and harmonious coexistence among the people of various ethnic groups.
He said if the nation is constantly mired in communal or political disputes, it would cause investors to shy away and this may ultimately cause great losses to the nation and inflict tremendous suffering to the people.
