TUARAN: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Haji Noor has urged Muslim youths in Sabah to make the spirit of Hijrah a way of life by continuously enhancing their knowledge, skills, character and identity to become a capable generation that can contribute to the progress of the State and the nation.
He said young people are a vital asset who will shape the future of society, the State and the country. As such, they should make full use of advances in digital technology for learning, skills development, entrepreneurship, knowledge sharing and improving their standard of living.
At the same time, he said, the younger generation must avoid the misuse of technology, the spread of fake news, cyberbullying and social ills that could jeopardise their future. They should also possess resilience, be courageous in facing challenges and constantly strive to improve themselves.
“With knowledge, good character and a strong Hijrah spirit, our young people can become capable, responsible and principled leaders with integrity,” he said at the Tuaran District-level Maal Hijrah 1448H/2026M celebration at Dewan Sri Sulaman here today. His speech was delivered by Nominated Assemblyman Datuk Abdul Kassim Haji Razali.
Hajiji said the Maal Hijrah celebration is not merely an annual event, but an important platform to reflect on the lessons of the Prophet Muhammad SAW’s Hijrah, which led to the establishment of a united, progressive, disciplined and morally upright society.
He said the spirit of Hijrah should serve as the foundation for increasing efforts, strengthening unity and building a more progressive society through positive changes in attitude, thinking, practices and actions.
According to him, the values demonstrated through the Hijrah, including careful planning, sacrifice, patience, courage and faith in Allah SWT, should continue to be embraced and practised in daily life. At the same time, negative attitudes such as laziness, indiscipline, selfishness, dishonesty and giving up easily must be abandoned.
He said that for tomorrow to be better than today, every individual must have clear goals and strive diligently to achieve them. The pursuit of knowledge, reading, respecting parents, helping the community and strengthening one’s relationship with Allah SWT should also become part of everyday life.
Hajiji also called on the Muslim community to make this year’s Maal Hijrah celebration a turning point to renew their determination by migrating from weakness to strength, from division to unity, from ignorance to knowledge, and from indifference to responsibility.
He expressed hope that the Maal Hijrah celebration would mark a new beginning towards building a prosperous, inclusive and morally upright ummah founded on Islamic values. He also urged the people of Tuaran to continue strengthening the spirit of cooperation, preserving harmony and supporting the Government’s development initiatives.
The Chief Minister further called on the people of Sabah to remain united, uphold stability and reject any elements of division that could undermine the State’s unity and harmony.
