KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Haji Noor has handed over Sabah Welfare Foundation (YKS) assistance amounting to RM30,600, comprising RM300 for each of the 102 heads of household (KIR) affected by the recent floods in Tawau.
The contribution was presented by the Chief Minister through Tawau Municipal Council President Mohd Shoffian Mohd Said to help ease the burden of families affected by the disaster.
The Chief Minister also expressed his appreciation to all disaster management personnel who worked tirelessly to assist flood victims throughout the incident, including the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM), Ministry of Health (MOH), the Tawau District Disaster Management Committee, as well as all agencies and committee members involved.
He said the commitment and cooperation of all parties in rescue operations, the management of the Temporary Relief Centre (PPS) and the delivery of assistance had ensured the welfare of the victims was safeguarded throughout the disaster.
The recent floods in Tawau affected 102 heads of household (KIR), involving 362 evacuees comprising 217 adults, 109 children, 28 senior citizens and eight infants. All evacuees were relocated to the Temporary Relief Centre (PPS) at Tawau Sports Complex Multipurpose Hall before being allowed to return to their homes after conditions returned to normal.
