KOTA KINABALU: Healthcare is a fundamental pillar of any society, and the pursuit of excellence in medical practice benefits not just practitioners but also millions of people, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Haji Noor.
“The dedication and expertise of professionals play a crucial role in shaping the future of surgery, improving patient care and driving innovation in the medical field,” he said at the opening of the 20th Congress of the Asia Pacific Federation of Coloproctology (APFCP) 2025, hosted by Sabah at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here today. His speech was read by Deputy Chief Minister II cum Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Joachim Gunsalam.
Hajiji said the congress is a testament to the commitment of the colorectal surgical fraternity to enhance healthcare services adding that the congress theme, “Sustainable Surgery: Embracing Innovation, Empowering Teams,” is apt as it embraces ongoing efforts to advance surgical care while ensuring its long-term sustainability.
Hajiji also acknowledged the scientific programme that has been carefully designed for this congress.
“With experts from around the world sharing their knowledge and discussing the latest advancements in colorectal surgery, I am confident that this platform will foster meaningful dialogue and collaboration.
“Your discussions over the next few days will undoubtedly contribute to the continuous improvement of healthcare practices, benefiting patients not only in the Asia-Pacific region but across the world,” he said.
