KOTA KINABALU: Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe is looking forward to fostering greater economic partnerships and mutual understanding between Sabah and Thailand to reinforce the commitment to shared prosperity and development.
Phoong said this after he attended the Reception of the National Day of The Kingdom of Thailand upon the invitation of The Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur together with his Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Datuk Thomas Logijin.
He said Sabah takes pride in its robust and strategic friendship with the Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, as exemplified by the successful inaugural Mini Thailand Week held in Kota Kinabalu during Sabah International Expo (SIE) 2023 earlier this year.

The event, which served as a platform to promote bilateral trade and investment, fostering cooperation and understanding between the regions, showcased the diversity and innovation of Sabah and Thailand’s industries, featuring exhibitors from key sectors such as Food and Beverage, Food Innovations, Smart Farming, Lifestyle Products, Bio-Circular Green, and Food Processing. The participation of entrepreneurs from these sectors highlights the immense potential for collaboration and growth.
Phoong expressed confidence in further enhancing trade and investment, emphasising the continued strengthening of Sabah’s ties with Thailand and Malaysia’s broader relations with Thailand.
During his working visit in Kuala Lumpur, Phoong will also visit a Malaysia-based Thailand food distributor, underlining the commitment to exploring opportunities and expanding collaborations in the food industry.
