KOTA KINABALU: Sabah welcomes back the Asia Triathlon Cup, marking a triumphant return after 22 years.
The XMultisport Event announced its recent appointment as the organiser of the prestigious Asia Triathlon Cup by the Malaysia Triathlon Association, sanctioned by World Triathlon.
The event is scheduled to take place at Prince Philip Park, Tanjung Aru, here on November 11, 2023.
Asia Triathlon serves as the governing body for the Olympic sport of Triathlon and all related multisports in Asia, officially recognised by World Triathlon as the Continental Confederation for the continent.

Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew said the return of the Asia Triathlon Cup after 22 years to Sabah is a testament to the region’s growing prominence in the world of triathlon and sports tourism.
“With its stunning natural landscapes and warm hospitality, Sabah is poised to once again leave an indelible mark on the global triathlon community. It not only highlights the region’s growing prominence in the field of sports tourism but also showcases the city’s capability to host international sporting events of this magnitude,” she said.
She said the Asia Triathlon Cup is expected to draw a diverse and talented field of athletes from across Asia and beyond, offering them a challenging and exhilarating competition experience.
This event further reinforces Kota Kinabalu’s reputation as a premier sports destination, known for its scenic beauty and sporting excellence, she added.
“The last time Sabah played host to the Asia Triathlon Cup was during the Asian Triathlon Confederation (ASTC) Triathlon Asian Championships in 2001. This memorable return signifies Sabah’s enduring commitment to the sport of triathlon and its standing as a premier sports destination in the region.
“We have full confidence in appointing XMultisport Event to organise the Asia Triathlon Cup. What makes this occasion even more special is the seamless connection between the KKCity XMultisport Challenge and the Asia Triathlon Cup.
