KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah Api-ApiInformation Chief Yee Tsai Yiew has called on the local authorities to digitalise their parking system,an upgrade from the current traditional scratch-and-display method.
She said the current parking coupons system is causing widespread frustration among motorists, who demanded a timely solution.
She described the present system as lacking in user-friendliness, with many motorists facing difficulties obtaining parking coupons and being unsure about which coupon to use.
“Besides, the physical nature of thecoupons often results in them gettingdirty and unattractive,” she said in a statement.

Yiew said the digitalising of the parkingsystem would be in line with theGovernment’s aspiration to turn KotaKinabalu into a green and smart city.
“We would need the development of a comprehensive parking application that could serve motorists in the city. The proposedapplication would provide parking locations,enable payment and time recording as well as facilitate tracking for the convenience of its users,” she explained.
Yiew also urged the local authorities to study thee-kupon system implemented by the Selangor Government via the Smart Parking System in 2022.
The system proved to be successful and led to a reduction of paper usage by 900 tonnes, leadingto additional cost savings and most importantly,an environmentally and user-friendly solution.
She stressed that by aligning with technology and sustainable practices, the city could create a parking system that complements the dwellersevolving lifestyles and respects the environment
