KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun received a courtesy call from Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup at his office in Menara Kinabalu, here, today.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed opportunities for Sabah and its people to benefit from State-Federal collaborations and programmes, especially in the agricultural and manufacturing industries.
Masidi said it is now the time for Sabahans to enjoy the benefits of having a strong relationship between the State and Federal Governments especially in developing and boosting the economy and industry.
“As we know, Sabah is rich with natural resources, many of which are still untapped by locals, as well as many other additional or alternative revenue streams that our local entrepreneurs and operators can take advantage of.
“For example, paddy farmers can monetise the paddy or rice straw, which is a byproduct of every harvest by selling them to sustainable packaging product manufacturers, instead of resorting to open burning to dispose of them – which is also not good for the environment,” he said.
Malaysian Bioeconomy Development Corporation Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer, Mohd Khairul Fidzal Abdul Razak, who was also present, briefed Masidi on matters involving the sustainable bio-packaging industry and the circular economy.
