KOTA KINABALU: The Borneo Culinary Association of Sabah and Sarawak (BCA) has successfully organised three programmes for the Ascot Academy, SK Tanjung Aru 1 and Seri Mengasih Centre here recently.
Its President Chef Dion Jee Ted Chen said the Urban Farm project and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives have benefited the academy, the primary school and centre respectively, in terms of education.
He said the teachers and students of Ascot Academy were invited to visit Urban Farm, an aquaponic farm in Kepayan, to explore modern agriculture and understand the sustainable eco green hydroponic system.
The academy’s Chief Operating Officer Isabel Lo Bai Hui thanked the BCA for choosing the institution as the beneficiary of its educational project.
Under the BCA’s CSR Initiative named Nurturing Young Minds with Care, the association gave out 130 packs of nasi lemak and bottled water to some 130 students and teachers of SK Tanjung Aru 1.
To mark Malaysia Day 2025, the association brought cheer to 100 “special needs” children of Seri Mengasih Centre by serving them packed lunches, apart from motivational activities.
Jee attributed the success of the three programmes to financial support from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment (KePKAS) and relevant organisations.
“I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to Datuk Seri Christina Liew for the funding from her ministry. Her encouragement has greatly motivated us to continue our CSR initiatives while empowering the young generation and promoting Sabah’s tourism, culture and culinary excellence.
“Thank you for the trust and confidence in BCA’s vision and mission,” the President said in a statement on Thursday.
Registered in 2013, BCA is a non-profit organisation committed to actively supporting and organising culinary-related events throughout the East Malaysia region, with the goal of elevating industry standards and fostering professional excellence.
