KOTA KINABALU: The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) President Tan Sri T C Goh congratulated Tun Musa Aman on his appointment as Sabah’s 11th Head of State.
Goh also pledged allegiance to the institution, expressing confidence in Tun Musa’s leadership to drive Sabah towards greater progress and prosperity.
In a statement issued today, Goh, who is also the President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong), lauded Tun Musa’s extensive experience as Sabah’s former Chief Minister. He expressed optimism that, with the support and cooperation of the State Government, Tun Musa would guide Sabah in achieving its vision of progress and prosperity (SMJ) while ensuring peace and stability for its people.
Goh emphasised that maintaining political stability and fostering unity among Sabahans under the framework of constitutional monarchy and democracy must remain key priorities in the state’s governance and development efforts.
Commenting on Tun Musa’s appointment, Goh highlighted the former Chief Minister’s impressive political and administrative career.
Tun Musa, who officially received his letter of appointment from His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, at the National Palace in Putrajaya today, was also conferred the title of “Tun.”
Born on March 30, 1951, in Beaufort, Tun Musa, 73, holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Edith Cowan University, Australia. He represented the Sungai Sibuga constituency as a State Assemblyman for six terms (1994–2020) and held various significant positions, including Sabah Finance Minister and Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department. He also served as Malaysia’s Honorary Consul to Bangladesh.
Notably, Tun Musa became Sabah’s 14th Chief Minister on March 27, 2003, succeeding Tan Sri Chong Kah Kiat. He served five consecutive terms until May 12, 2018, making him Sabah’s longest-serving Chief Minister. Goh remarked that these accomplishments underline Tun Musa’s extensive experience in governance and leadership.
Tun Musa’s term as Sabah’s 11th Head of State, under Article 1 of the Sabah Constitution, will officially begin on January 1, 2025, and run until December 31, 2028. He succeeds Tun Juhar Mahiruddin, whose term concludes on December 31, 2024.
Goh also expressed deep respect and gratitude to the outgoing Head of State, Tun Juhar. Reflecting on Tun Juhar’s legacy, Goh noted his significant contributions during his tenure. Appointed as Sabah’s 10th Head of State on January 1, 2011, Tun Juhar, 71, served for 14 years across four terms, making him the longest-serving Head of State in Sabah’s history.
Goh commended Tun Juhar for his outstanding service to Sabah, its people and the nation, acknowledging his lasting impact and dedication throughout his tenure.
