KOTA KINABALU: Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud’s leadership had not only helped Sarawak to go through various challenges and transitions, but also led the state to become a paragon of unity, harmony and stability in the nation today, despite religious and racial diversities, said Datuk Seri Dr. Maximus Ongkili.
The Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) President said this in extending his family and the party’s deepest condolences to the family of late Abdul Taib on his passing yesterday.

“Indeed a true statesman, Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib had architected Sarawak’s development and modernisation, especially during his 33-years tenure as the state’s Chief Minister. For his contributions, he was named ‘Father of Modern Sarawak’.
“I also had the privilege to work with his youngest daughter, Datuk Hanifah Taib, who was my Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs),” said the former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) in a statement.
“Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib’s legacy will be remembered for generations to come. May his soul rest in peace,” he further said.
