KOTA KINABALU: Cement Industries (Sabah) Sdn Bhd (CIS) has increased its cement production and delivery to the market by bringing in more raw materials and bulk cement shipments and extending its delivery operation including Sunday and Public Holidays to ensure that all the state cement requirements are fulfilled.
CIS General Manager Sumardi Mohd Yusof said this in response to recent news reports in the local newspapers regarding the shortage of cement supply in the Sabah market.
“We would like to inform you that CIS’ plant at Sapangar Bay had a major main machinery breakdown last month (Oct) that reduced its production capacity by 40 per cent from 2,400 tonnes per day to 1,400 tonnes per day that disrupted the cement supply.
“The repair works took one month to complete and the plant operation resumed its normal operation in early November.
“CIS has since increased its cement delivery to dear the backlog orders,” he said in a statement today.
He said the supply was also interrupted due to delays in raw materials and bulk cement shipments’ arrival arising from bad weather at the loading port in Peninsular Malaysia and Vietnam.
