KOTA KINABALU: The Deputy Chief Minister II and Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, received a courtesy visit from Club Med and Golden Sands Beach Resort City at his office today.
During the meeting, Masidi was briefed by the Chief Executive Officer of Club Med (Asia), Rachael Harding, and the Managing Director of Golden Sands Resort City, Peter Wong Leong Siang, on plans to open a new Club Med Borneo resort in Kuala Penyu, scheduled to commence operations this September.
Masidi welcomed the plans as a positive development in strengthening Sabah’s tourism sector, particularly in Kuala Penyu, which is rich in natural attractions.
The opening of this international-standard resort is expected to have a significant economic impact, including providing more than 300 job opportunities for local residents.
In addition, the recruited staff will receive accredited skills training, enhancing professionalism and employability within the tourism and hospitality industry.
Masidi emphasised that the initiative aligns with the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) 2.0 roadmap, which focuses on sustainable economic development, human capital empowerment, and increased local participation in the state’s strategic sectors.
He also reiterated the Sabah Government’s commitment to supporting quality investments that bring long-term benefits to the people and contribute to the state’s inclusive and sustainable economic development.
